The Telecom Tree

Wellington always has awesome attractions and events, no matter what time of the year. Normally whatever the season or celebrated holiday Wellington will theme something to that occasion.

As it is we live 30 minutes outside the city now, visiting these attractions can be very rare, however it would have been rude not to have called past to see the new attraction for this season – The Telecom Tree.

Standing in front of the tree

Standing proudly on the waterfront at Frank Kitts Park the 26 metre-high Telecom Tree is made up of 37,000 lights, which provide 16 million possible colour combinations.  There is also a space underneath full of bean bags, which holds up to 200 people where you can just lay back and see an enchanting view of the light show.

Pretty lights

Along with that are also some red telephone boxes standing alone called ‘Santa Line’ phone boxes, where you can go in, talk to Santa, tell him what you would like for Christmas and as you hang up a bead of lights runs from the box to the tree – sending your message to Santa!! Bethany of course loved it, such simple things beautifully done can be so magical.

Making our call to Santa

We had a lovely time, it was however late and the weather not the best, but we stayed and played in the playground (the first time in the dark!) till we had seen the tree in its full glory. Well worth a look, for any age, and especially special for this time of the year.
