Wet Footed Feets
The main topic of conversation no matter if you are here or in the UK is mainly about the weather. The UK as you may know has been hit with terrible lashings of snow causing all sorts of issues which has been labelled as the ‘big freeze’. It occupies our newspapers and news here too, and of course getting regular updates from family and friends with pictures of their homes covered in snow, we sometimes feel very much connected! Here in NZ we are pretty much still waiting for Summer to start. Right now it’s all about the rain and wind, with a side order of extra wind!
Of course that doesn’t keep us holed up inside, despite the rain and the wind, the temperatures are actually quite decent and so most days are hitting high 20′s.
Never let it be said that we do not finish something we started, a while ago we took a walk to Belmont Regional Park to an area called Wet Foot Track, it is a lovely track that feeds through the river, up hills and through the deep forest, all very good, but we didn’t get far last time due to only wearing jandals that day!
This time we made the most of it by making sure we had the right shoes and the right clothing, and we knew that with all the rain lately we were in for treat. It was an excellent walk, we were able to let Denver and Bailey off the lead most of the way and they just loved splashing around in the river and jumping over rocks. The walk itself quite easy, but really you couldn’t avoid getting wet. Good fun though, and it was warm enough so why not!

As you get further and further into the wood and deeper into the valley, there is the strangest howling wind above your head due to the valley closing in - it’s quite disorientating. The path gets smaller and the river wider and the track starts to lead its way over rocks balanced between the river. The walk must take around 45 minutes one way, but you are treated by arriving at a very lovely and amazing waterfall at the end.

We spent some time here and then retreated to do the same journey back. We all had a great time and we were really chuffed with ourselves that we had made the whole walk this time. Also it was such an amazingly different and interesting walk too, purposely made with the fun of enjoying the great outdoors to the full. Good times!
